Pest Pontrol Frisco TX
If you live in North Texas, you are guaranteed two things in the summertime - heat and bugs. At Safe Pro Pest Control in Frisco TX, we can't do anything about the heat but we can help you out with your bug problems. And one of the worst pests you'll have to deal with this summer is ticks. Ticks have long been associated with a host of diseases that can affect both humans and animals. That's why nipping your tick problem in the bud is extremely important. Start by learning a few things about ticks that can help you prevent their bites:
1. Ticks are smaller than you think. You'll see pictures of them that are enlarged to make identification easier; but ticks are actually quite tiny, which makes them hard to spot, especially when they're young. The four developmental stages of ticks are egg, larva, nymph and adult. Tick larvae are the size of the period in this sentence. Nymphs are the size of poppy seeds and adults are the size of sesame seeds.
2. The nymph stage is when ticks are most dangerous. In the late spring and early summer, when ticks are in their nymph stage, they are more likely to transmit diseases to humans and animals because of their tiny size. Since they are the size of poppy seeds at this stage, they are difficult to see, which means you'll likely not see them until it's too late. The upside to being attacked by tick nymphs is that they generally can't reach higher than your ankles so you'll have just one area of your body to keep an eye on - until later in the summer when they reach their adult stage.
3. Check your entire body for ticks. Adult ticks can travel higher on your body than nymphs, which means they can end up on your clothes, in your hair or in your ears. If you hike in the woods or live in a wooded or overgrown area, do a daily check of yourself, your family and your pets to find ticks before they latch on or just after they've latched on, preferably within the first 36 hours.
4. Ticks have eight legs. Unlike other insects, which have six legs, ticks have eight legs. This makes them easier to identify so that you can remove them from your skin and clothing as soon as possible. In addition, ticks are wingless and have a single, oval body that is flat when it's not engorged with blood.
5. Ticks need tall grass and brush to thrive. Experts in pest control in Frisco TX know that f your property is overgrown with weeds, debris and brush, you're creating an ideal environment for ticks to thrive. Ticks require moisture and humidity so when you keep your lawn mowed and debris-free, they won't find any cool, moist hiding places.
Although the CDC has identified at least 13 tick-borne illnesses that can affect humans and animal, not all ticks carry diseases, so you don't have to panic if you spot one on yourself or someone else. Remove the tick with tweezers and treat the area with soap and water and rubbing alcohol.
