With a sprinkler irrigation system, there are a number of potential small and large problems that may occur. Luckily, with proper lawn sprinkler maintenance and installation, most of these problems can be avoided. Below are some of the more common problems Turf Rain Irrigation Systems has been called in to fix and how we fixed them. Keep in mind we are not recommending you tackle these fixes yourself. Only a licensed irrigation contractor can perform these repairs properly.
Your Sprinkler Head Will not Retract
A system of retractable sprinkler heads dotted around your landscape are utilized by most sprinkler irrigation systems. These heads pop out of the ground when you turn the system on. They then retract when you are done watering. So, you will not hit them with your lawnmower or trip on them, they are virtually unnoticeable when not in use. But, when they do not retract when they are supposed to, they become a problem.
It is relatively easy to fix this. Mulch or other debris may block the head from moving once it has gotten inside the sprinkler head. This is the most common reason sprinkler heads fail to retract. From around the sprinkler head, carefully remove any debris, such as wood chips, and see if that helps. You may need to call a professional if that does not do the trick.
Your System Leaks
Water not coming out of a sprinkler head is not the only problem caused by leaks in your sprinkler irrigation system. While leaving dry the parts of your yard that you want watered, leaks can cause puddles in other areas. Leaks are commonly caused by a line freezing from a cold winter, damage due to digging and landscaping, a faulty valve box, or faulty installation.
It is a rather involved repair job to fix a leak. You can see if replacing the head helps if the leak is visible near the sprinkler head. However, you will need to contact a professional sprinkler repair company for larger leaks, where one area is visibly greener than other parts of the yard or you notice pooling.
Your Sprinkler Heads Are not Producing enough Water
There are many common causes for your sprinkler head to only produce a drizzle when you turn your sprinkler irrigation system on. These include
* You are running too many heads at once.
* The sprinkler head nozzle has root intrusion.
* The piping to the head is clogged by debris from a broken line.
* The demands for water outside the house are conflicting with the demand for water inside.
* The piping is getting squeezed shut by root growth.
* You have too many leaky sprinkler heads.
* The piping is leaking.
It can be very hard to figure out what exactly is causing the blockage without the proper experience and knowledge. To find out what is causing the problem and to get it fixed, your best bet is to always talk to a lawn irrigation contractor. Contact Turf Rain Irrigation Systems today!
