Can you imagine yourself starting seeds indoors? It's easy if you you try.
John Lennon gave the word 'Imagine' a challenging context with a song using imagine as his title.
While you may not usher in world peace or the brotherhood of man you may imagine a way to see the world with an entirely fresh perspective.
Imagine that your hobby could be how you get food from now on. We simply don't know what the future holds for us. Many things have happened in my lifetime that have exceeded my early imaginations.
I was caught up in the excitement of the 1960's when so many things were going on. I never imagined so many people would ever again rally once that movement lost momentum. Now that it is fifty years later the flower children, along with millions of others, are immersed in the explosive imagination the internet has made possible. But the internet does not grow fruit, vegetables or flowers.
Imagine getting away from your keyboard and finding relaxation starting seeds. You watch your sprouts. You adjust your lights. You water them. You commit your worries to auto-solve while you're engaged in a new hobby that may one day, out of necessity, feed you.
Imagine your plants growing. See them get a little bigger every day. Imagine the butterflies swooning over your flowers. See the honeybees spreading nectar from bloom to bloom. See yourself coming indoors carrying a basket of your favorite vegetables. Imagine giving bouquets of flowers to every guest who visits your home.
Starting seeds indoors is as much about sharing as the internet is. It is common to overproduce plants, vegetables and flowers when you're having fun. Imagine that.
Being housebound during the winter gives the imagination ample time to ferment with new ideas, dreams and ambitions. For those of us who are experienced gardeners looking forward to the growing season has the ability to create a passionate fever. Many, rather than waiting for spring, make their own weather by developing year-round indoor gardens. Can you imagine yourself doing that?
Yes, it is possible to sustain oneself gardening indoors. Many people do it. However, it does take space not everyone has, but I think you could do so with much less space than you might imagine. If you simply do not have indoor space, and little outdoor space you can still participate by taking the seeds you start indoors outside into containers or a raised garden bed system that takes practically no space at all.
Imagine yourself starting seeds indoors. It's easy if you try.
