Have you given up on gardening because the first try didn’t turn out well? Try again! But this time do it with careful planning and with more patience. A luxuriant garden is not impossible to achieve if you only know what you’re doing and if you’re willing to work hard. Here are some things to avoid this time:
Not Assessing the Site
It’s nice to have flower beds outside your bedroom window so you’ll be greeted with colours in the morning. Sadly, it’s not always your choice. The site should be suitable to the needs of the plant. Some plants thrive under plenty of sunlight, while others are more sensitive. Assess the area for at least 2 days to know if it is shadowed most of the day or not. If you’re planning to plant large trees, you should discuss it with the utility company first. This because large roots could wind around underground wires and pipes.
Planning More than You Can Handle
Starting a gardening can be exciting. Just imagine picking vegetables from your garden to prepare a nice dinner for the family. This could make you start thinking of planting various seeds in the garden. While you’re free to plant anything, remember that a bigger garden means a bigger responsibility. If you’re new to gardening, it would be prudent to start small.
Not Minding the Soil
The condition of the soil where the seeds will be planted has a huge impact to the result of your endeavor. If the soil conditions don’t favor the plant, your efforts will only be wasted. Checking the soil’s nutrient load, pH and texture is just a small step in this project, but it is a highly important one.
Just get few scoops from the target site and bring them for laboratory analysis. The results will help you decide if it is a good location or if you need to plant something else (something that is suitable for the soil type).
Choosing the Wrong Plant
Your love for coconut pie won’t be enough to make coconut tree thrive in your garden. Always remember that most plants prefer certain climates. Research about the plants you plan to include in the garden, if they’re not apt for your climate, try to look for an alternative member of their family.
Planting the Wrong Way
Some plants need their seeds to be planted on a certain depth and on a certain distance from each other. Read the seed packets before you begin to know the requirements of the plant.
