There are so many types of trees out there, which one should you choose to make a Bonsai with? Well there are different types of trees that work better as Bonsai then others (although I'm sure that you know that) and you will find that the ones that are popular are popular for a good reason.
One such popular tree is the Jasmine, winter variety. This type of tree is very popular for a good reason - it flowers in the middle of winter, hence the 'winter variety' bit. You may find that the Winter Jasmine is the perfect tree to liven up a dull period of the year (colour palette wise) and so it might be a tree that you will want to turn into a Bonsai.
Here's what the Jasmine Bonsai (Winter Variety) likes:
Cold. This tree is a Winter tree for a very good reason! This tree likes the cold and you will find that it thrives in the cold weather. You will not need to bring it inside although in intense summers you might want to shade it a bit. If you live in a cold environment or one that gets very cold, you may like this type of tree very much indeed!
Care. This is probably the biggest issue with this type of tree. It requires watering pretty much every day and it won't like you very much if the water in the pot dries out for any reason. Thankfully it's a tough tree an can handle wiring very easily so it's simple to style into the effect that you want. This type of tree looks very good as an informal upright Bonsai or as a cascading style. Remember that this is a Chinese tree of origin, so you might want a more Oriental type tree style to it.
Pot selection plays a big role here in the overall appearance of this tree so make sure that you choose one that will overall complement the tree design.
If you're after an enjoyable and 'happy' tree, then you won't need to look much further then the Jasmine Winter Variety Bonsai tree. It brightens up such a dull time of year and so you will find that you will enjoy having it in your garden. It does require a bit of maintenance to thrive, but what Bonsai doesn't? I think you should give the Winter Jasmine Bonsai tree a go. You will thank me, I promise!
