Since I can remember, I always had the drive for gardening. When I lived in my parents house when I was a teenager, I remember having a garden and flower spot in the backyard that was out of this world. I grew some of the freshest tomatoes and some of the most beautiful daisies that could exist. It's just that, living in a small New York City apartment, I had almost no room at all for my belongings. Have something growing was not possible.
Then I moved to San Francisco and everything changed. I was very surprised by what I saw when I went to a SF flowergarden show. You see, San Francisco has a unique environment. Practically anything that can grow can grow there. It is bright enough for plants that need a lot of sunlight, and for plants that need a lot of moisture there is enough rain. It is not too hot, and it is not too cold. It stays almost the same temperature all year. In short, it is the ideal moderate environment.
Because of that, San Francisco flowerandgarden shows are well-known over the world. They have some of the best and brightest flowers, the freshest fruits and vegetables, and the most impressive gourds that people have ever seen. Every garden and flower magazine profiles them each year, and each year it is getting better and better. When you go to the flower and garden show in San Francisco, it is almost impossible to not become obsessed with the idea of growing something on your own. The plants are so wonderful, after all that, how could anyone resist? For my part, I simply couldn't!
Of course, going to a flower festival or reading a flower and garden magazine, is one thing. Starting a garden on your own is another. It seems so easy to do in the magazines, but it is not easy! Actually, I forgot how hard it was. I do not remember the amount of work that went into my flowers but I sure remember the way that they looked when they were in full bloom. Having a few scattered flowers and tomatoes is one thing, but having a nice groomed garden is another. I had such unrealistic hope from the flowers and gardens show that disillusionment was to be expected. Nonetheless, after a few years, I did have an impressive flower and Garden display. I now grow plants from all over the globe!
