A number of people residing in Plymouth were recently left in need of plumbing supplies and other products thanks to a mistake.

According to a report in the Plymouth Herald, the errors were made by Apollo Housing, which is conducting a major revamp of council homes for the local authority.

Bathroom supplies such as showers and toilets were among the items that were lacking. However, the list of missing items also extended to cookers.

The products were not available to the homeowners for up to four weeks in some cases, the publication suggested.

Apollo Housing, which describes itself as the country's largest and fastest growing property services company operating in the education, social housing and public buildings sectors, has since apologised for the problems.

One homeowner affected stated he was left without plumbing supplies and other things after builders finished work on his bungalow without clearing up the dust and rubble.

The individual claimed the workers had ripped out the old bathroom supplies but had not installed new ones.

Clive Turner, chief executive of Plymouth Community Homes, which awarded the contract to Apollo, said he had raised concerns with senior members of staff at the organisation.

He added: "We have let Apollo know in no uncertain terms that we are not happy."

Meanwhile, one of the residents affected who did not wish to be named stated: "I sit and cry at night penned in my bedroom with my boxes of toiletries. Dust is everywhere. Nobody seems to finish a job.

"We're all stressed out and want our homes back."

Responding to the complaints, Apollo's regional manager Ian Flatt said: "We accept there have been some teething problems."

He went on to note that action has been taken to resolve the issues and he has personally contacted some of the tenants who have been affected.
