You know those sweat-breaking gardening tasks such as digging, fertilizing, adhering to rigid planting schedules, cycling crops, taking care of pests/weeds, and so on?
Well if you have an ecological garden, you don't have to do all these things. An ecological garden has a natural, systematic ability to maintain itself. You only need to interfere with the system every now and again.
So, how to grow romaine lettuce using ecological gardening system? Okay, here's the basic plan…
(A) First you have to plant the romaine lettuce seeds in a composted soil. You know, a solid soil conditioning plan is essential for establishing a high producing organic vegetable garden.
So it's best that you enhance your soil structure and fertility by applying a decent amount of quality compost on the soil surface several times a year.
With solid soil structure and lots of organic material, nutrients that were previously locked up will flow to your vegetable plants at a very quick rate, therefore dramatically increasing your harvest.
(B) To keep weeds from growing and avoid certain minerals from depleting, you should plant a diverse set of edible plants. Make sure the planting arrangement is done in a compact manner.
A compact planting system will shade the soils surface, effectively halting surface crusting which induces runoff and nutrient loss.
(C) Sow another set of romaine lettuce seeds after the first the batch of seedlings has matured. You want to keep the harvest coming for the next few months!
