Are you thinking about growing venus flytrap plants? Do you have a new one and need some information? You are in luck. A flytrap is one of the easiest carnivorous plants to grow. It thrives on very little maintenance.
Although the majority of first-time venus flytrap owners prefer to purchase their plant growing in a pot, some will recieve them in the mail in the form of a bulb.
If you have a bulb, you want to make sure the roots are kept moist. You will need a terrarium or a pot. A terrarium is a great way to grow and display this very interesting plant. You can create a wonderful display that will be great conversation piece. It will also serve to protect your venus flytrap from people who are tempted to set off the traps for no reason. Your plant thrives in high-humidity conditions. The terrarium will help with that also.
Plant your venus flytrap bulb root side down. You will want to cover it in poor and acidic soil. Cover it with the soil so that the top of the bulb is just even with the soil. Do not add fertilizer.
Keep your venus flytrap in full sun for 6-8 hours a day. If it starts to wilt, that means that it may be getting too hot and you should reduce the amount of time it is in the sun. Of course, during dormancy, your flytrap will not require as much sun.
If you place your flytrap outside, it should get enough bugs on it's own. If it is an inside plant, you may need to feed it live bugs at least once a month.
Growing venus flytrap plants is an awesome adventure! Once you learn the basics, you will enjoy it.
