A dust bin receptacle is located at the entrance of a home. This is for the access by the garbage collecting company. This is a structure that should be covered as per the public heath authorities. This is to prevent littering of rubbish in the compound by pests, cats and dogs. It is built as a cubicle with ventilation, a lockable door and a roof. The garbage put inside is also to be protected by weather. This is to prevent rotting of rubbish that is uncollected.
When setting a bin receptacle, the height and access is very important. It should have a door that opens outward. This is to maximize on usable space. Ordinary roller bins are three feet high. The headroom should allow a man to stand and clean inside. The ventilation blocks fixed should be placed on the side that the wind blows away. If tree a is near, it will provide a shade over the cubicle. A drainage pipe should be provided with a grating for letting out water. This should join the sewer system of the home.
The dust bin cubicle is a five by five square room. It has a height of seven feet. A foundation is excavated usually and the concrete put in place. After the foundation works are complete, the floor concrete is cast. During casting the concrete, a gully trap is put near the corner. When the concrete floor is complete the walls then commence. The wall is built of masonry or bricks up to a height of five feet. The rest of the wall is done with vent blocks up to seven feet. A ring beam is formed and cast to tie the walls.
The dust bin receptacle roof is made of iron sheets or roof tiles. The structure for the roof is done and is tied to the beam. After the roof is complete, internal finishes commence. The finish on the wall is rendering plaster. This is steel floated to make it smooth. The floor is done using terrazzo or other hard wearing floor finish with a fall towards the gulley trap. After flooring is complete, a louvered steel door is fixed. This is locked and opens from outside. The gulley trap grating is then fixed. Painting may be done if desired.
