Everyone knows electric lawnmowers are better for the environment, but not everyone is prepared to make the switch. You might not have an outlet easily accessible, so you will have to deal with extension cords snaking all over the yard. You run the risk of accidentally running over the cord. You may have to move it this way and that to reach all of the edges of your lawn. Quite a hassle. But to save even a little bit of the environment for future generations, it is well worth it.
On the other hand, you could switch to a reel push lawnmower. Many people are taking this route. They are inexpensive, easy to use, lightweight and use no electricity or gas. There is nothing worse than getting through half your lawn cutting and running out of gas. So, it's off to the gas station with the jerry can. And don't forget the oil. Most lawnmowers have 2-stroke engines and need the gas to be mixed with oil.
As for the hedges and edges, battery powered tools are a good option. They are good for the environment, lighter and easier to use than gas powered equipment and cost very little to recharge. Of course, you can always use traditional hand powered tools, but few people are willing to put forth that much effort. It takes about three times as long and you will be extremely sore afterwards.
There are many little changes you can make to save energy. If you look around your house and how you use power, you will instantly see all sorts of cost cutting and energy saving techniques that are easy to implement. Do your part for the environment. If everyone just makes a few small changes, the overall impact will be enormous.
