It is that time of year when people start thinking about getting their gardens in order. With warmer weather people tend to sit outside more and they want their surroundings looking good. It is also nice having a nice garden if you are entertaining so that you have somewhere to sit with your guests outside and even to have food and drinks. It is really good if you can have some sections in the garden to make entertaining easier.

 

It is a good idea to have an eating area with a table and chairs which is close to the house so you do not have far to carry food and drinks. It is nice to have some landscape borders in this area so that it looks pretty but the flowers are not too close to the table so hopefully insects are not attracted to the food area. Then it is nice to have a grass area, especially if you have children, so that they have an area that they can play on. It is also nice for grown ups to have a grass area to walk on and to admire the rest of the garden from and also to sit on in a deck chair. It is nice to have a lower border around the edge of this as well but you need to choose string plants because there is the risk that they may get accidentally trampled on or have balls thrown into them. It is also nice to have a few garden toys for the children maybe something like a play house or sandboxes are nice. These are good items because they are not too messy and they can easily be hidden behind bushes or trees or painted to blend in with the garden.

 

Of course if you do not have children, you do not have to worry about this sort of thing and you can think more freely about what you would like in the garden. It is nice to plan for the future though and imagine whether it is suitable for you as you get older. You may have children in the future or maybe you are getting older and need to think about how manageable the garden is and whether you will need to consider making it lower maintenance. It is worth considering these things, before you spend a lot of time, money and effort in the garden because you do not want to have to change it again in the near future, especially if you have really complex and expensive plans.
