There are close to one hundred different tools that you could get for working with your bonsai, but a few that are considered as being essential, and which are the tools that you want to make sure get included in any bonsai tool kit.

Bud Scissors

When you are getting any bonsai tool kit, one of the most important tools to get included is the pair of bud scissors. This is the tool in your bonsai tool kit that you will be using to trim the leaves and buds on the plant. This is a very delicate tool and you only want to stick to using it for these uses because otherwise the blades on the scissors could end up dull and will not do you any good any longer.

You will have excellent control with these scissors, and they can be pretty powerful when you need them to be, but again you want to try and stick with using these for delicate work and use other scissors for other work on your bonsai.

Knob Cutter

So also in your bonsai tool kit, you want to make sure that you get a knob cutter. This is an important tool, one that is used for biting into the wood of the bonsai, and you can use it to remove unsightly pieces of wood coming off the trunk, so that you can keep a nice, streamlined look to the bonsai.

Just make sure that you are cleaning these cutters off after every time that you are using them, because otherwise they can end up rotted and you would then have to get another pair.

Root Cutter

A lot of people forget about the root cutter when they are picking out tools for their bonsai, but this is actually a very important one that you are not going to want overlook. This is the tool that you are going to need for shortening long roots, and this tool has a much thicker, coarser blade construction which ensures that it will be able to handle cutting thick pieces of wood.
