Water filters come in a variety of types and styles. One factor that differentiates them from one another is the kind of water filtration method they use. They are relatively inexpensive to replace and ensure a continued high standard of filtration.
In microporous filtration system there are three types of filtration layers: depth, screen and surface. All three serve very different functions. Depth filters are usually used as pre-filters because they are an economical way to remove 98% of suspended solids and protect elements downstream from fouling or clogging. Surface filters remove 99.99% of suspended solids and may be used as either pre-filters or clarifying filters. Microporous membrane (screen) filters are placed at the last possible point in a system to remove the outstanding traces of resin fragments, carbon fines, colloidal particles and microorganisms.
Reverse Osmosis filters are widely used to provide purified water. The reverse osmosis process basically draws water through an extremely fine membrane. The membrane acts like an exceptionally fine filter to create drinkable water from salty or contaminated water.
RO filters work on the concept of osmotic pressure. A lot of pressure is required in this process. For most of the models, a strong pump is used to supply needed fluid pressure. But as a result they provide extremely pure water. These filters waste a lot of water.
Ultraviolet radiations are very effective in killing germs and hence makes water germ free. Mercury low pressure lamp generating 254 nm UV light is an efficient way of doing this. All the germs and microorganisms are either killed or inactivated by this process, giving you clean and clear water.
