The hidden causes of the ineffectiveness of your heating or cooling devices may have to do something with the electrical setup. In winters, your room heaters fail to deliver the output whereas in summers, the air-conditioners and the cooling fans look inefficient to serve the required purpose.
A possible reason behind this low-efficiency may be accredited to the improper insulation of the electrical outlets and receptacles among other things. Poorly insulated outlets lead to air leaks which in turn affect the efficiency of the concerned appliances.
When insulating the outlet, make sure that no provision for air loss is maintained in the setup. Also, the cracks and leaks must be repaired accordingly.
Start the project by preparing your own insulation pads. The pads should be thin such that they can be easily accommodated in the outlets and receptacles. Bring foam board and cut out rectangular pieces of size similar to the outlets. Make a hole at the center of the pad to complement the design of the wall board. Alternatively, you can go for readymade foam pads that are easily available in the market.
Initialize the actual task by cutting off power supply to all the spaces of the home. You can do so by either switching off the main breaker switch or removing the main fuse.
Take out an appropriate-sized screwdriver from the tool kit and start unscrewing a particular electrical outlet. Detach the face plate completely from the setup and place it aside. Look into the outlet to locate potential leaks or cracks. If there are any leaks or cracks then get them repaired as soon as possible. Resume the task by dissociating wires from their respective terminals. Grab all the wires in your fist and make them pass through the hole of the insulation pad. Place the pad in position and screw the setup back.
Insulate all the other outlets one by one. Also, look out for any faulty or broken switches or plugs. Make an immediate replacement of the affected component.
Test the success of the job by switching on power supply from the mains.
