There are various types of roses that can be easily purchased in the market. Three of these types are bare-foot roses, container-grown roses, and packed roses. These roses are the most common type that you can cultivate especially when wish to have garden.
Bare-foot roses are in it is latent state from the end of autumn season to the start of winter. These types of roses are best to plant if your place go through terrible winters. Bare-foot roses have roots that are clean of soil so it should be planted right after purchasing in the flower shop. To start planting these types of roses, take away any unhealthy or diseased part and then check the root and cut to about one third if you see thick roots. In addition, with the use of gardening tool you can make a small hollow as plot. This should be deep enough to give extra space for the growth of the plant.
Furthermore, prepare a pail full of organic fertilizer with a good mix of any general fertilizer, and then add about a half of its content to the hole. In a slow manner, put the plant in the middle of the opening and arranged the roots well or spread it out. To check the union of the bud, put a cane on the opening you dug earlier. The bud union should be about 2.5 centimeters underneath soil level. Using your hand, load the area with soil then firm it. Rake and tread the soil around the plant and water it.
When planting packed rose, remember that it is somehow the same with bare-foot rose. The only difference with the two is that packed rose has soil around its roots. This type may be planted with the packed soil or without it. Just make sure that when you plant it with package, the package should be composed of paper because paper is biodegradable and will not decompose in the soil.
If you want a variety of rose that can be planted anytime, then you should pick container-grown roses. Unlike any other roses this type can either be put indoor or outdoor. Just keep in mind that when you leave it outside never expose it too long during winter because this may cause damage to the roots.
If you wish to plant roses in different styles, that is very possible. You can plant it forming a hedge, plant it closely to make it look like a bush or just single. When planting in rows allow 1 to 1.2 meters of distance so that there is a room for growth and when it matures, the branch intertwines.
When planting tree-like-roses, make sure that you plant it deeply enough. A stick should be placed in the middle of the stem to support it from the wind. Tie the plant to the stick. Tie it just below the rose's head and one in the stem.
If you like vine type of roses, this is another story. You have to plant it in a 45 degree angle against a fence or wall or tie it against a cane or a wire to ensure that the growth of the rose will follow the path you tied it in. Just bear in mind to tie it not too tight.
During bad seasons like winter, always protect your planted roses and this can be done when you cover the plants with branches or straw. Do not remove the protection until spring time.
