Growing Freesia

Growing Freesia

Pronunciation: free'-zee-uh

Our potted Freesias have the same size flowers as the cut flowers everyone knows and loves -- and the same fragrance. Place your plant in bright but indirect light; Freesias also grow well under fluorescent lights. Daytime temperatures of 60-70°F and nighttime temperatures of 40-55°F are ideal. The cooler the temperature, the longer the flowers will last. Keep the potting mix moist, but not soggy. Water when the surface of the potting mix is dry to the touch. It is not necessary to fertilize. Remove spent flowers as they fade to keep the plant looking fresh. If you live in a mild-winter climate (one where the temperature never falls below 20°F), you can plant your Freesia in the garden after the danger of frost has passed in spring. If you live in a cold climate, discard the plant after bloom. It is unlikely to flower again indoors.
