Growing Nectaroscordum (Honey Garlic)

Growing Nectaroscordum (Honey Garlic)

The three species of this member of the Onion Family (Alliaceae) are native to Southern Europe and Western Asia. Loose clusters of hanging, bell-shaped flowers, which bloom in summer on naked stems, and the ornamental, upright seed heads add height and drama to borders and cottage gardens. Their twisting, strap-shaped leaves smell of Garlic, as does the nectar that drips from the flowers, attracting hummingbirds.

Light/Watering: Grow in full sun or partial shade.

Fertilizer/Soil and pH: Moderately fertile, light, well-drained soil.

Pests/Diseases: Rarely bothered.

Dividing/Transplanting: Lift and divide clumps in fall. Plants self-seed freely, so remove spent flowers if you don't want more plants.
