Valued for its elegant and graceful foliage, Phyllostachys can be grown in the ground or as a container plant. This spreading Bamboo can turn into a striking forest where hardy or can be used to create a screen. If planted in the ground, provide ample room as this Bamboo will expand. Install a root barrier to control the rhizomes from running. Choose a site away from drying winds and provide a sheltered location in Zone 6.
Light/Watering: Grow in full sun or dappled shade in moist, well-drained soil.
Fertilizer/Soil and pH: Grow in fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. If grown in a container, use soil-based potting mix and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly throughout the growing season.
Pests/Diseases: Protect emerging shoots from slugs and snails if they are a problem.
