For background, most vegetables and herbs require at least six hours of sunlight a day to grow, but some plants will tolerate partial shade. Great shade-tolerant vegetables include:

For example, the first plan probably has shade on the left where the leafy greens are but the squash and tomatoes on the right will need full sun. Likewise, the third plan probably has shade at the top but full sun elsewhere because corn, beans, squash and tomatoes all like full sun.
