Get Involved
As always, we welcome (and need) any interested Member-Owners to reach out to us to participate on the Board.
The Board has many needs this year, but could really use the help of a Member-Owner with Marketing, community outreach and building maintenance expertise. To learn more about the Board please visit
http://www.urbanroots.org/about.
If you are not quite up for a Board position, we continue to need help in the Store and Yard and are looking for any interested Member-Owners to participate in some of
the standing Urban Roots committees. Some of the Committees that are looking for new faces include Building, Finance and Planning, Education, Volunteer and Membership committees. Participating in a committee represents a great way to begin to get more involved in Urban Roots, the direction of your Co-op and the community.
If you are interested in either of these opportunities please send an email to [email protected].
Fall Plant Swap
As part of the Member Appreciation Day’s festivities we will host another plant swap (from 10am – 12pm.) Plant swaps go way back for Urban Roots, to the years before we opened the doors of the Garden Center on Rhode Island. They played a role in building the network of interest and support that
enabled us to make Urban Roots a reality. We are proud and pleased to continue this tradition.
Fall is a great time for sharing and planting perennials and shrubs. As you do your garden cleanup and closeup tasks, many of you will find plants that need dividing. Bring any plants that you can’t use down to UR and they will no doubt find a good home in someone else’s garden. Dig up and divide the plants you want to share and put them in a used bag, old pots or cardboard box. If you have spaces you want to fill, there may be just the plant you are looking for being offered at the plant swap. All plants are free, and you do not have to bring something to take something. So come on down.
