We have tens of thousands of dollars in expenses for much-needed future projects and infrastructure improvements – an irrigation system to go with our well, a driveway and forklift for large deliveries and ADA-compliant entrances, to name just a few.  Your member-owner dollars help us to accomplish these projects $100 at a time.

This Saturday (May 8th), as well as the following three Saturdays (May 15th, 22nd & 29th), Urban Roots will have a member-ownership table setup in the yard to answer questions regarding member-ownership. Anyone who becomes a Member-Owner during the time our table is setup will receive 15% off purchases that day (other discounts do not apply).

Your Co-operative! All member owners receive voting rights at annual and special meetings. This makes them able to vote on store policy and board of director elections and only member-owners can serve on the board

We Have A Lot To Be Proud Of

– We are one of the country’s youngest and most unusual cooperatives. We were the first garden center cooperative to organize, offering plant swaps and salesin 2005 and 2006.

– We were the second to legally incorporate (Urban Earth in Minneapolis took over a closing business and filed legal paper work in October of 2006 – three months before Urban Roots).

– One of the few year-round Garden Centers in Western New York and we continue to be there for your needs once you move your gardening indoors (houseplants/maintenance, winter planning/ideas for next years garden,workshops).

Some of the significant highlights to date include:

– We opened for business with 100 member-owners in April of 2007

– Reaching over 300 member-owners in 2008

– Purchasing two more lots, adjacent to our property in April 2008

– Digging the first well in the City of Buffalo to water our plants in July 2008

– Building façade rehab Winter/Spring 2009

– Installing a shade structure and greenhouse in early 2010
