This spring Urban Roots collaborated with Buffalo Spree, Joy Kuebler Landscape Architect, and Buffalo ReUse, on building a garden for Junior League Show House to sustainability.
Included in the garden was a shed designed by Kuebler and her team, of almost entirely salvaged materials from Buffalo ReUse, including a greenroof and sink served by rainwater. After the Show House was finished, the shed came to its permanent home in the Urban Roots yard, to serve as an architectural anchor at Urban Roots.
From Buffalo Spree Editor, Elizabeth Licata’s post on Garden Rant about the Show House Garden: “It will have veggies under cold frames, a rain barrel feeding a sink, a potting shed with a green roof, a pergola, native shrubs and trees, a compost tumbler, and sculpture. Because of the earliness of the season and frost issues, it won’t have the perennials we’d ordinarily have: mainly just the woody plants and the veggies. Attendees will hopefully see that you can have sustainable strategies and still have everything attractive and easy-to-maintain.”
