Every time I find myself in a craft store poring over the new selections, I begin again to think that if only I had this item or that decorative craft, then my house would look perfect. Unfortunately, this is not great for my wallet or my house!In all reality, that new exciting purchase may be the first thing I add to my next garage sale list. Instead of the constant looking and searching for new items, I have found that rearranging what I already have is a great solution for home dcor. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but I feel like I have a brand new look. It is the best of both worlds: I get the experience of interior decorating, and my bank account balance doesn’t go down a penny!
Steps to Building a Wreath
A lovely wreath on your door will tell visitors to your home something about you before they even step inside. Wreaths vary in many ways: the materials used, the shape chosen, the style emulated. To make a basic wreath, procure some silk flowers and a foam ring from a craft store or shopping center. Most likely, the stems of your flowers will be too long; trim them so that there is about 1 inch of stem remaining. Insert the flowers one at a time into the foam ring. Strategically place them so that they are close enough to cover up the foam, but not so close that they look bunched or crushed. Your wreath will last a very long time if you use a hot glue gun to add small amounts of glue where the base of the flower touches the ring. Vines or other standard greenery can be used to add a festive flare. You can theme your wreath to the time of year, or use regional flowers for a more local look. Finally, choose what part of the wreath you want on �top� and tie a string around that area so that you can hang it on the door.
Hanging Plants: Picking and Displaying
No matter the size of your house, adding hanging plants make for a great and non-invasive decorative touch. Corners make some of the best places for hanging plants�"there is hardly a better way to add color and a clean feeling to those areas of your rooms. It is important to hang your plant correctly so that it does not someday crash to the floor. You will want to find a strong hook that can be adhered in some way to a ceiling beam if you are planning to hang a heavier, denser plant. Smaller plants use smaller hooks, and can usually be placed anywhere. There are many different sizes and shapes and styles of hanging plants, so look around for the designs you like best. You can opt for a live plant or a silk one.
Decorating with Ferns
When incorporating plants and other greenery into your home, there are two ways to go about the process. Many people find their favorite plant, purchase it, and then rearrange the set �up of the room in a way that flatters and provides space for the plant. Other people decide exactly where in their home they need some greenery, and then look for a plant that fits the size and style needed. Ferns are a great way to add nature into a room without taking too much space. Ferns are great in tight spaces because their leaves are quite narrow and grow into whatever area that you please. Silk plants need no maintenance at all, and will stay the same size, so there is no need to worry about them growing too large. Be aware that when you choose a fern, you are not selecting a very colorful or eye-catching plant, though it still makes a lovely accent. In this fashion you can set up a great theme or pattern using ferns as a backdrop and beautiful flower arrangements that pop out and catch the eye.
