Whole gardening books have been devoted to the different conditions of soil--even for casual and weekend gardeners to think about. You already know that pH is important for your soil but there are other things for gardeners to think about too.
Soil grade and proper drainage are two other areas that are also incredibly important. It's possible to have soil that is too drained not drained enough and your soil can be too fine, too bulky or even downright clumpy. So how do you figure out which course of action to take and which method will best help you deal with everything? It's actually pretty easy; the plants you plant as well as what it is when you plant it (a bulb, a seed, etc) is going to take care of everything.
Plant nurseries can be so much fun to wander around in. A big nursery can offer more fun and be more interesting to look at. Nurseries have tons of plants and their main purpose is to sell them to you. A variety of mature plants as well as a variety of different types of seeds can be purchased there. Be aware though of what you can reasonably grow and what you already have at home. Your soil and climate will factor into whether you will be able to grow every gorgeous full bloom plant you see.
By now--whether you've been using magazines or the Internet to learn about gardening--you've no doubt come across plenty of different businesses hawking bulbs. There's nothing wrong with this, per se, but it is still important that you are careful about where you buy your bulbs. It's okay to find your favorite bulb supplier online. But as far as we're concerned, there's no better place to buy bulbs than a local nursery. The biggest reason that we think this is the best method is that we get to check them out in person before we buy them, feel them, inspect them all over, etc. Try this out first, before ordering online, and besides, going to the nursery is really fun!
For a long time, people have understood that there is value in organic gardening. Most of us have known for a really long time what common practices used by commercial gardeners are, in regards to chemicals or pesticides. Some pesticides have been proven to be really harsh and sometimes even hazardous. This doesn't matter, even when you just grow flowers, because there will still be local environmental concerns. Finding organic solutions, whether you're growing veggies or flowers, isn't hard. Not only that, but there has been an important increase in awareness in this area, thanks to the efforts of people in the green movement and an increase in concern for our planet. In relation to gardening, most of the information on the Internet pertains to plants rather than health and safety. Because we have been doing it for so long it is understandable. Even with something like gardening, its is still and area we need to stay focused on. Honestly, we do think most people forget about health and safety issues. Taking the necessary precautions to stay safe will give you many years of gardening fulfillment.
