The ornamental Canary Climber flower is a perennial vine plant, that is grown as an annual in most areas. Seed companies will even note them as an annual on the back of their seed packets. This tender perennial will over-winter in milder areas of the country.

Canary Climber plants are native to Peru. The plants produce gorgeous, feathery, bright yellow flowers. The foliage is striking, deeply lobed, and a vibrant green. The plant gets its name from the yellow flower, which has subtle red tracings near the center, resembles a small canary.   

Canary Climber plants are closely related to Nasturtium.

Grow Canary Climbers on the ground as a creeping vine, or on a trellis or arbor.

Canary Climber plants are grown from seeds. Directly sow seeds into your flower garden.

In colder areas, start plants indoors, 6 -8 weeks before the last frost.

Canary Climber seeds are harder to start. The seeds need darkness in order to germinate.

How to Grow Canary Climber Vines:

Once the seeds sprout, this plant is easy to grow. It prefers cooler summers, and may be more of a challenge in the hotter areas of the country.

Plants grow best in full sun. In hotter regions, shade the plants from the hot afternoon sun.

Plants do best in rich soils. Mix in compost and manure at the planting site.

Fertilize once a month, with a general purpose fertilizer.

Keep soil moist not wet.

Apply a thick layer of muclh around the plants, to retain soil moisture. If you live in a warmer area, and want to over-winter the plants, apply a thick layer of mulch.
