Oxalis is one of the most extended plants worldwide and among the places it lacks from there are the polar zones. On the other hand, it can esily be found in Brazil and South Africa, as well as in Mexico. There are hundreds of species of Oxalis and most of them are also named „wood sorrels” due to their taste resulted from the sorrel power. This taste is very acidic and it influenced severely the name of Oxalis. There are even yellow sorrels, named after the color of the sorrel and the same rule applies to the pink ones. If you are interested about other species of Oxalis, you can try looking for shamrocks and even sour grasses.
It basically depends on your interests and preferences. For example, it is general for every single type of Oxalis that these plants are either annual or what biologists call – perennial. If you take a close look over their leaves you will notice that they have between three and ten sections, but most of the plants only have three pieces. It means that you will easily recognize them for their three leaves which basically resemble to what clovers have. On the other hand, there are also species which change a lot regarding the angle of their leaves as a consequence to the level of intensity of sun or light and the phenomenon called photoinhibition.
As far as the flowers are concerned, the number of their petals is five and these use to be gathered down. These also have a ten stamens. It is interesting the relation between the number of petals and the one of stamins. It is equally interesting to know that the color of these flowers can be extremely different, varying from white to red. This meanes that you can choose among pink and yellow species and adapt your choice according to the way your room is being decorated.
