Phalaenopsis Orchid is most common in our homes because of the easy maintenance. If you want to find the best place for them, you have to know the conditions of light, temperature and humidity of the flower. It needs to grow and flourish under certain circumstances. It adapts easily to the apartment, its flowers last only a few months and as long as it has a permanent care, orchid butterfly is perfect for beginners.
Phalaenopsis Orhidaceae is known as moth orchid or butterfly orchids after “phalaina”. In Greek it means butterfly or moth. It is an orchid epiphytes. In the wild, it lives in dense tropical forest trees in Southeast Asia, India and northern Australia.
Its flowers are colored in shades of white, yellow, pink, purple or in various combinations and blossoms. They are arranged in long and slightly arched ways. After the flowers wither, it is customary that the rod is cut from the 3rd node down. That is the condition that the orchid will bloom again. Leaves, green, fleshy, are arranged opposite the stem, forming a rosette around the middle.
In general, phalaenopsis orchid are able to make flowers almost all year long. They should be protected from direct sunlight, but also you should be provided enough light for photosynthesis. A window oriented to the east is the best, but a place in a window facing south or west is a good choice too. The leaves will turn yellow light if the light is too strong though.
As far aa the temperature is concerned, this plant withstands temperatures from 15 to 30 degrees, while taking care not to expose to room air currents and is constantly ventilated. Temperature is a key factor when it comes to flowering. Thus, a temperature difference between day and night for a week will cause the flower stems. Recommended minimum temperature at night is 16-18 degrees, but below 15 degrees and in daytime 21-29 degrees and not above 30 degrees.
About humidity you should know that in general, high atmospheric humidity is good for butterfly orchid. This is done easily by placing the plant on a saucer dish with a layer of pebbles that keep the moist constant, especially in hot summer days. You have to avoid spraying water in any form of leaf base. Stagnant water can lead to their decay and it’s a pity to lose such a beautiful indoor flower.
