Eucrosia Bicolor is a beautiful indoor flower that will generate not only a comfortable atmosphere for you, but it will also be a good choice for the decoration of your house. The people will admire you for your plant and care and therefore, you will make a good impression on them too.
Eucrosia is a plant with bulbs and leaves like those of lilies, with a nice sheen, 40-60 cm long, occurring after the formation of floral stem. Flowers are red, the lily-like and small.
A special feature of these flowers is the very long stamens, the corolla coming out of the bunch, also of the thin antennas. A single inflorescence stem formed a peak of 2 to 8 buds that open at a time, the flowers are lasting about 2 weeks.
The period from planting bulbs to flower opening can vary between 2 and 3 months. Eucrosia is easy to take care of and requires no special conditions to make it flourish.
Light is one of the factors that help the stem to form. A few hours of direct sunlight in the morning, but it cannot tolerate the burning afternoon heat in summer days.
As far as the temperature is concerned, you should know that unlike other bulbs, for the rest, cold is absolutely necessary in order to obtain an abundant flowering, Eucrosia does not support low temperatures. To ensure the formation of buds, the plant needs at least 2-3 months in dry storage of bulbs at an average temperature of 20 degrees. It is a cold-resistant plant, but only for 4-6 degrees lower and only in dry conditions. In this case it enters the rest totally.
After planting bulbs in pots, watering will have to be gradually increased. In summer, water requirement is high, it is recommended watering every 2 days and only when the substrate surface dries.
After passing flowers, plant care will continue until the drying leaves, at which time watering stops completely, allowing the bulb to get some rest. Fertilizer for flowering plants, applied once to every l0 days after the appearance of floral stem tip, will provide a rich blossom. During autumn, when leaves begin to become yellow, you will have to stop using fertilizers.
Ideal substrate is a balanced combination: topsoil, sand and peat. A special trick and tip is to plant the bulbs in small pots, leaving the third layer of earth above them.
