With the right knowledge, anyone can be a great gardener. You can greatly increase your gardening skills by applying the suggestions you will read in this article.

Mix various plant heights and plants in the exact same bed for a unique English garden. Using plants of all the same kind or size, can result in a boring, and unoriginal garden.

With root cuttings you can create new plants. Sever the roots during the coldest months, when they're in hibernation. Use the sharpest knife you have to take the thickest, longest roots available. Divide the roots into two inch lengths. Fill seed trays with grit and moist peat, and gently lay the cut roots on the surface. Cover thinly with grit and peat. Leave your trays in a cool environment and wait a few months for the new seedlings. Transplant the cuttings to small pots, and allow them to grow a little prior to planting them outside.

Ammonia and water is a great combination to deter snails when sprayed in your garden. The ammonia will be converted to beneficial nitrogen and will not hurt your plants. This method is harmless for your plants by lethal for snails. For the best possible results, do this every day.

Some bees, like bumble bees, pollinate your plants and are beneficial to your garden. There are a few out there that can do more harm than good. Carpenter bees are one such exception because they can damage wood as they make their nests. Generally speaking, bees help your garden so it's best if you leave them alone.

Autumn not only means colder weather but new vegetables to plant. Instead of a clay pot, show some fall spirit by using a hollow pumpkin to plant your lettuce or kale in. Hollow out the pumpkin and spray with Wilt-Pruf to prevent rot. After that, your pumpkin planter is ready to use!

Take all of the weeds out of your landscaping! Unwanted weeds fight for the same nutrients that more desirable plants do, and they also are unsightly. To do this, think about using white vinegar. White vinegar is a weed killer! So, use a spray solution of white vinegar if you are tired of pulling those weeds by hand.

You must gradually introduce your plants to changing conditions and temperatures, so you do not shock them. Place them outdoors in the sun for about an hour or two on the first day. Over the course of a week, slowly increase the amount of time that you leave them outside. By the end of the week, your plants should be ready to make the big move with no problem!

You should draw up your plans for a vegetable garden! List all the veggies you would like to grow, then detail out your garden plans on paper, with diagrams of what plants will be located where. Make sure you are giving consideration to required sunlight, plant maturity, height and width, and moisture control.

If your garden is small, consider planting one or more dwarf fruit trees. Urban gardens are typically small in area, but there is plenty of room for dwarf fruit trees, even if only one. Don't expect your trees to start bearing their full sized fruit until about 3 to 5 years from the time you plant them.
