Spruce Up Your Garden With These Handy Tips

There is a lot of information you must learn before taking your garden and turning it into a masterpiece. There is much fun and much work involved in gardening. Try these hints to bring the fun out in gardening.

Whenever you are planting a veggie garden, it is vital that you place them in a location where sun shines down on them for six or more hours per day. Most vegetables need at least that much sun for optimal growth speed. This is also true for some flowers.

Start your plants in containers, and then transplant the seedlings into the garden later on. Doing this will increase the survival rate of all your outdoor plants. This also helps tighten time between plantings. When you take out the prior set of adult plants, your seedlings will then be prepared to go in.

Sometimes the soil you want to use for your garden has a high alkaline content. Combine coffee grounds with the soil to reduce this. Coffee grounds add acidity to the soil and are very cheap. By amending your soils, you will help your plants grow and flourish.

Do you enjoy fresh mint, but don't like how they engulf your garden in their growth? Keep your mint growth under control by planting them in pots and/or garden containers. If you would like, go ahead and plant the container and the plant right in the ground to prevent root overtake.

Take the time to spread around five centimeters of organic mulch near your vegetable plants. Mulch is used to keep extra moisture and provide nutrients for your plants. It also keeps weeds from growing. You'll find this is a time saver since you won't have to pull them later.

Beginning your garden with healthy soil is your first defense against pests! The hearty plants that will grow in a garden with rich soil can resist the bugs and diseases that weak plants can't withstand. So if you want your garden to provide plants that are as healthy as possible, you need a good quality soil that contains few chemicals and that can accumulate salts over time.

While working in your garden during the fall season, watch out for those stink bugs! Stinkbugs are most prevalent on tomatoes, beans and peppers. If not managed well, they can wreak havoc on your garden.

A simple way to raise up the plant material layers for the compost pile is to store the material in big plastic garbage bags. You can do this during the fall once the leaves have been raked. Make sure to put the bag somewhere warm. In the spring, you will have great soil material for your compost pile.

With these tips, you're better equipped to grow the most beautiful garden you can imagine. In learning how to create your dream garden, you'll also be growing as a person. That's because learning how to nurture your plants will not only help you reach the goal of having a great garden, but it will help you learn to nurture yourself.
