A garden is much more than just 'landscaping'. They are not only a simple hobby either. It is a great way to for one to relax, and to enjoy and appreciate nature. When you excel at gardening, these effects can prove very positive within you life.

When laying sod, it is important that you do it correctly. Before the sod can be laid, you should prepare the soil. Thoroughly weed the soil, and work it into a fine, smooth tilth. When the soil is clean, pack it tightly and create a flat surface. Thoroughly moisten the soil. Lay the sod in straight rows, ensuring the seams meet perfectly. After the sod is in place, go over the surface to ensure everything is level. Use loose soil to fill in any gaps between seams. Water the sod everyday for the first two weeks until the roots grow enough.

If you work with clay soil, you have probably found using a shovel very frustrating and exhausting. Try applying a coat of wax onto your spade prior to working with clay soil, and then buff the spade head with a cloth. The wax prevents the clay from sticking to the shovel, and stops rust from forming.

If a test indicates that your soil is very alkaline, you can mix the dirt with used coffee grounds. Coffee grounds add acidity to the soil and are very cheap. When you can eliminate excess alkaline from the soil, it makes what you are growing much healthier. This means your veggies will taste better, and your flowers will be more vibrant than ever.

When mowing your lawn, be careful not to cut the grass too far down. If you allow your grass to grow a little longer, the roots will go down deeper into the dirt, helping the grass grow better and remain hydrated. Short grass is more prone to getting dried out and turning brown.

One particular plant should be the focal point of your garden. A focal point in the garden will capture your attention. Usually this is a big plant that is somewhat different from the other plants in the garden.

Make sure to wear sun protection gear if you'll be working in the garden in the sun. Try wearing a large sunhat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes, and use sunscreen on any exposed skin. Using the right protection from the harmful rays of the sun means less of a chance of you getting sunburn and skin cancer.

Aspirin water will strengthen your plants against diseases. Dissolve three aspirin in four gallons of water. Spray your plants with the water if they have a disease. Try spraying your plants with this around every three weeks.
