Have You Tried Gardening Yet?

Gardening may not come naturally for everyone. Some just seem to have a "green thumb" and others do not! The good news is that, with a bit of knowledge and patience, anyone can put together a beautiful garden! Here are some tips and tricks from experienced gardeners on how to get started.

To have a more interesting garden area, create an illusion of space. If you are working with a small garden, make use of color to create an illusion of more space. A background of blues, grays, pinks and mauves will create a misty effect, giving the illusion of depth. If you use a bright color in the foreground such as reds and oranges, it will do even more to emphasize the effect.

Putting a fence around your garden serves a couple of purposes. Not only does it mark the boundaries of your garden, it also keeps out dogs, kids and a wide variety of other creatures that might try to invade your space. And it doesn't have to be a boring board on board affair either. Wrought Iron and other materials make great fences that also add to your garden's beauty.

It is important that you protect yourself while you work in your garden. Wear a head covering to protect you from the direct rays of the sun. If you aren't used to being outdoors you can easily get sunburned and that is no fun at all. Also, wear gloves to protect your hands and nails from the worst of the dirt.

Many plants like a humid environment to be at their best. For Orchids and Bromeliads to thrive, make your own miniature greenhouse to provide the environment they like. It's easy to do. Just cover a large pot or other large container with a plastic bag. This will easily produce the humid environment that allows plants inside a greenhouse to thrive.

Many gardeners, not just beginners, keep a garden journal. This is an easy and effective way to keep track of the successes and failures you experience with your garden. Keep a record of which plants were successful and what methods worked best to encourage growth. You can also take pictures of your plants to include in your book. Over a few seasons, this record will prove to be both entertaining as well as a valuable resource.

If you have enough space give some consideration to growing your own vegetables. Not only will you eat better but edible plants can be quite beautiful as well. Depending on where you live plants such as lettuce, strawberries, rainbow chard, Okra, eggplant, and cucumbers are all lovely as well as delicious!

I hope that I have been able to convince you that gardening is an enjoyable experience. I don't have the words to really describe the joy that comes when the plants I have cared for do well and bloom in all their glory. Suffice to say that it is well worth whatever small amount of work that was required. Try it yourself and see!
