Helpful Organic Gardening Tips You Can Use

Many people think of starting an organic garden, but few actually go out and do it. The complexity of it and unfamiliarity with gardening is daunting and even intimidating to many. Check out the tips presented here to get some ideas for ways to start your own organic garden. It can be a rewarding hobby with many benefits.

Have some plastic bags on hand that you can put over your gardening shoes if they are muddy. Having these available lets you keep your flow in movement, and helps you return to your gardening fast so you can finish up your day.

Pine is a mulch that is great. Some plants like acidic soil because they have high acidity. If you have these plants in your garden, keep them healthy by using pine needles as mulch. Cover your beds with two inches of needles; acid will be dispersed into the soil as they decompose.

Make sure you work in your garden every day. Don't waste your time looking for missing tools. Have all of your tools gathered and prepared for use before you work in the garden, and make sure to put them away neatly. One way to keep your tools handy is to use a belt especially designed to hold them. An alternative is to wear a garment with multiple pockets that are big enough to hold your more commonly used tools.

When cooking vegetables, chop the leftover and use them in your garden. As the chopped up vegetables compost, they will give your soil good nourishment. You may of course still choose to use some of these leftover vegetables for composting, but making immediate use of them is also beneficial.

Put an organic material, such as mulch two or three inches deep, in your flower beds. Mulching helps to hold moisture in the soil, enhance the soil quality, and slow down the growth of weeds. In addition, your flower beds will have a beautiful, finished appearance year round.

Prepare the ground for a perennial garden quickly and easily. Simply use a spade or small shovel to get under the grass or turf and flip it over. Then, using wood chips, cover the area to a depth of three or four inches. Let this sit for a couple weeks, next dig into it to plant your new plants.

Mulching can be accomplished with three or more inches spread over plants and trees. This will hold moisture in the soil allowing you to conserve water and it also retards the growth of weeds. As an added bonus, it often looks very pretty.

Coffee grounds work great mixed in with your soil. These coffee grounds have many nitrogenous nutrients that your plants could use. Nitrogen is often the most important nutrient when it comes to plants thriving, and a solid source of nitrogen, like coffee grounds, urea, or compost, can boost growth speed and increase height.

If you apply the suggestions you've learned from this article, creating an organic garden shouldn't seem daunting. You will enjoy wholesome fruits and vegetables fresh from your chemical-free garden.
