If you want to make the most of your garden design, then you’ll need to start early, so you can enjoy it in the summer.
Here’s what you need to think about.
1. You’ll need to think about what you want your garden to do, or be used for. Perhaps you want a lot of flowers, or somewhere for the children to kick a football around, or room for a trampoline. You might want to grow your own fruit and vegetables.
2. Once you’ve decided what you want your garden to do, you’ll then need to establish whether it’s feasible and how you’re going to do it. You can’t have a trampoline in a tiny garden, and you might want to make the most of a large garden, and give it many uses.
3. You’ll want to tidy up your garden, so that you can see exactly what you’ve got, and what you need, for your new garden.
4. If you want plants and flowers in your garden, you can either plant them from seeds, or buy them part grown. You’ll need to make sure that you establish the sort of soil you have, and which way your garden faces, so that you can get the right sort of plants.
5. If you want to make even more of your garden, then why not consider having a greenhouse or shed, or a playhouse for your children, or maybe even a garden office?
6. You might want to make sure that you’ve got the right tools for the job, so that you can do things properly. If you’re a keen gardener you’ll be able to do it yourself, otherwise, why not find a landscape gardener, or ask if family and friends can help?
7. If you’re struggling for ideas, why not see if changing the use of your garden will inspire you. Perhaps you’d not thought about having a patio area with decking for sitting out on, and for barbeques. What about planting plants that naturally attract wildlife, to make your garden more interesting?
8. If you have children, then they’ll really appreciate a play area, or a sand pit. Why not see if you can get them involved with the design, as well as helping you make it. They’ll appreciate it even more then.
9. Don’t forget practicalities, such as being able to access the washing line, or get to the garage. You don’t want to have the perfect garden on paper, only to discover that it doesn’t work in practice.
10. Whilst it’s easy to get carried away, and find lots of plants, water features, climbing frames, and barbeques that would be ideal in your garden, you should think about the cost too. You don’t want to scrimp on your garden if you and your children are going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but you don’t want to spend a fortune, if you’re not going to use it.
Now you’ve got more gardening ideas, what will you do in your garden?
