One such accessory would be adding in a garden wall that can be used to create a boundary for the garden or a flower bed. Here are a few ideas on garden walling and building your own stone garden wall.

Before you set to work on building your garden wall it is important that you first consult your local building inspector. He will be able to advice you on the different community codes regarding adding walls to your garden. In some cases, there will be restrictions on what you can do and where you can build so you need to find this out before you get any of your materials in.

Once you have found out about whether or not you can build the wall you will need to get in the relevant materials in order to do the build. You should aim to get about 300 lbs of stone for every 2 to 3 feet cubic feet of wall you aim to build. You will also need cement and a means to mix it.

Once you have the materials together you should ensure that you have build a solid foundations. This should be at least half a foot deep and perhaps a couple of feet wide assuming your wall is one foot wide. You should then fill the trench with cement or gravel.

After this you will be able to get going with the wall itself. When you start off at the base you should gather together all of the biggest and flattest stones to start the wall off. Ofter this you should get your medium sized stones to build up the body.

At the top should be some more flat stones. If you find that you do not have the right shapes you can use a chisel and mallet to chop chunks off the stone. You should then fill in any holes with any of the small stones that are left over.

Here are just a few tips on making your own stone wall in the garden.
