In case you are into gardening, you can practice this enjoyable activity or hobby indoors or outdoors. The modern conservatories have no longer the purpose of depositing plants and flowers, being considered a part of a home or an improvement of it. However, in the past the conservatory was meant to give shelter to plants only. As a rule, these plants were rare ones that were not accustomed to the climate of the area. For instance, the lemon tree does not grow in cooler areas, being an exotic fruit or plant, so in order to produce some lemons, the plant had to be given extra heat and light. This could be provided by a green house and the results were usually good. However, today, these conservatory rooms rarely serve the former purpose, being considered as another recreational room or an extra room in the house. Some people call them sun rooms or solariums.

In some cases, the conservatory gave shelter also to certain types of animals or rare birds. There have been cases of common conservatories built for visiting purposes, being the home for plants, birds and animals- a place where people could come and see these. The styles in which the green houses are built vary in accordance with the owner's tastes. It may be in Victorian style or very modern in diverse geometric forms. So, if you are thinking about using that extra space in your garden, you could think of building a conservatory in the style you like. Then, you will have a place to spend your free time in.
