When cactus are indoors they need as much direct sunlight as possible since the sun is filtered through glass. If placed outside they require large amounts of light but appreciate some shade from the scorching sun. During the winter months the plants need be allowed to dry out between thorough waterings. In summer months the watering should be kicked up a bit due to the warm weather and hotter sun. When transplanting, Cactus soil is necessary for optimum drainage and contains the nutrients that are needed for them to thrive.
Succulents are plants that store water within due to scare water conditions in their natural habitat. Succulents other than Cacti are native on every continent besides Antarctica. Cacti are native in the New World: North America, South America and Central America.
