Alocasia 'Portodora'
'Portodora' elephant's ear (Alocasia 'Portodora')
al-oh-KAY-sia porto-dora
Genus:
Alocasia
‘Portodora’
produces big, ribbed, upward-pointing leaves that look like lettuce-edged fans.
This plant adds instant drama.
Care:
‘Portodora’
prefers full sun and rich, moist soil. It fares well by water features and in
containers with plants of similar needs. Gardeners in cool hardiness zones may
overwinter plant’s tubers indoors covered by peat moss during winter, after the
leaves have been desiccated by frost.
Propagation:
Plant
‘Portodora’ tubers when soil is consistently around 70°F. Separate offsets in spring or summer.
Problems:
If
the tubers are kept too wet during winter storage, they may rot. Keep the
tubers and peat moss slightly damp, never wet.
