Campanula persicifolia

Peach-leaved bellflower (Campanula persicifolia) kam-PAN-yew-lah per-sik-ih-FOE-ee-ah Genus:  Campanula This plant is one of the most popular campanulas. Its stiff mat of slowly spreading evergreen rosettes is topped by 3-foot-tall, all open, bell-shaped lavender to white flowers in late spring. Noteworthy Characteristics:  Self-seeds. Care:  Grow in full sun or partial shade and fertile, moist but well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. Responds well to cutting back to promote new growth and a second wave of flowering. Propagation:  Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in spring. Divide in spring or autumn. Take basal cuttings in spring. Problems:  Slugs, snails, vine weevils, spider mites and aphids. Powdery mildew, rust, Septoria and Ramularia leaf spot, and Southern blight.
