Dianthus alpinus

Alpine pink (Dianthus alpinus) Genus:  Dianthus Clusters of serrated single blooms in pink to dark crimson sit just off the ground in summer. Noteworthy Characteristics:  This cushion-forming species is short-lived, but easy to grow from seed.   Care:  Requires full sun and sharp drainage and prefers neutral to alkaline soil. Propagation:  Sow seed in cold frame in fall; divide in spring or fall. Problems:  Crown rot, slugs, sow bugs, grasshoppers, chipmunks, squirrels.
