Sea lavender is a rosette-forming perennial with mid- to dark-green leaves to 12 inches long, occasionally to 24 inches. Deep lavender-blue flowers are borne in panicles made of spikelets on wiry stems.
Noteworthy Characteristics:Grows well in salty, windy, and sandy conditions. Useful in a sunny herbaceous border and for naturalizing. Flowers are good for cutting and drying.
Care:Prefers sandy, well-drained soil and full sun.
Propagation:Sow seed in containers outdoors. Divide in spring.
Problems:Rust, leaf, and flower spots, gray mold, Southern blight, and crown rot.
