Overview

One of the most familiar hyacinth species is the large flowered hyacinth. The sweet-smelling flower stalk is between 8 to 12 inches tall and is covered with clusters of single or double flowers. Grow the hyacinth from a bulb in the garden or indoors as a potted flowering plant.

Step 1

Press your finger into the soil around the hyacinth plant. When the plant is first being established, the soil should be moist (not soggy). After foliage begins to mature allow the soil to dry between watering.

Step 2

Locate an non-softened water source. If your house has a soft water system, use a water source that is not treated, such as an outdoor water faucet.

Step 3

Fill the pitcher with water and allow it to reach room temperature. If watering outside, you can use a gardening hose with a nozzle attached to soften the water flow.

Step 4

Gradually add the water to the soil in the morning, if watering is needed. Continually watering until the water pours from the container's drain hole. If watering a hyacinth in the garden, allow the water to drain into the soil, so that it is moist and not muddy.
