Pear Gourd – Identification

Q: During this past spring, I noticed a plant growing in my front yard. I let it grow and it turned out to be a gourd plant! I continued to let it grow until I harvested the gourds last week. One plant produced over 100 gourds. Since I didn’t plant the seed, how do you think it came to my front yard?

A: Did someone in your neighborhood have a gourd display for last year’s Thanksgiving celebration?

My bet is that a squirrel grabbed some gourd seeds and “planted” them in your yard for later enjoyment. These are called bicolor pear gourds.

Now you have lots to give away!
