Q: Is my orchid having a baby or what?
A: You have a keiki! This is a Hawaiian word meaning “child” or “baby”.
Yours isn’t quite old enough to remove from the mother orchid. Keep your plant in bright diffuse light and fertilize once per month. When the keili has roots 1″ – 3″ long you can make cuts and inch above and an inch below it to free it. Repot it in dampened long strand sphagnum moss in an orchid pot with slits along the sides.
Given the right conditions, it will bloom in a couple of years.
