Q: A couple of weeks ago I read an article in the paper about using fish oil and flypaper in your closet to capture clothes moths. Can you give more details?
A: I was intrigued by the same article but the idea just doesn’t have much merit. Dr. Beverly Sparks, Extension Entomologist, says she knows of no data that would support the conjecture that moths would be attracted to the smell of fish oil. I chuckle to think of a person who mistakenly uses this treatment and is followed by cats, racoons and possums attracted by the smell of his clothes!
