Q: I am told you might be able to help me identify what I have found at the bottom of my mulch pile.

A: Jim Rodgers at Nearly Native Nursery says they are most likely rat snake or king snake eggs. All egg-laying (oviparous) snakes in north Georgia  are non-venomous. The only egg-laying venomous species in south Georgia is the coral snake. Sprewell Bluff along the Flint river  is the furthest north a coral snake has been documented. No worries here in the north concerning snake eggs.

It would be best to not disturb them or turn them. Rat snakes and king snakes are beneficial animals.
