Q: I have a porch light next to my screened front door. When I come home at night, moths are flying around it and they try to come in the house. Are these clothes moths? Should I move the light?
A: They are almost certainly not clothes moths. Clothes moths are not attracted to light. In fact, they avoid being in the light and will flutter away and try to hide if you shine a light on them. Another nuisance moth, the Indian meal moth, is indifferent to light – neither flying towards or hiding from it. You are being bothered by “outdoor” moths. If they get inside your house you can just swat them or shoo them back outside.
