Q: One of the orchids we are wintering over in the greenhouse has this recurring problem – reddish brown scales on the underside of the leaves. I suspect they are some kind of insect. They are somewhat sticky to the touch.
A couple of months ago, I wiped the leaves off with alcohol, and the scales come off easily. However, they are coming back on this particular plant. (There are 12 orchids in the greenhouse – this is the only one that seems to be affected)
Any idea what these scales are and how to control them?
