Q: Can you tell me what this plant is and any way to control it. It has begun taking over the river backwater on our farm in south Georgia.
A: It’s water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes.
Depending on the size of the weed patch, glyphosate (Rodeo, Eraser-AQ), 2,4-D ester (Navigate, Aqua-Kleen), fluridone (Sonar, Avast) and diquat (Reward, Weedtrine) are used for pond weed control.
